The Sprint iPhone 5, so far just a rumored device, has sent stock prices up and inspired analyst predictions of Sprint selling more than 1 million iPhones. But one place where the Sprint iPhone 5 rumor won't be spread around (at least officially) is in a Sprint retail store.
Sprint has issued a memo to its retail employees directing them to not bring up the rumor with customers and offer "no comment" to those consumers who bring up the rumor themselves, according to a memo obtained by the blog SprintFeed.
The memo says employees can acknowledge that news outlets have reported the rumor if a customer won't drop the subject, but beyond even that, "no comment" is the company line, SprintFeed said. Both Apple and Sprint have declined to comment on the Sprint iPhone 5 rumors in the past, so asking retail workers to do the same isn't too much of a surprise.
Currently Apple's iPhone 4 is available only from AT&T and Verizon in the U.S., though a fifth-generation iPhone is expected to arrive in September or October. Sprint's addition as a third carrier selling new iPhones has been rumored for weeks, but as of yet Apple hasn't even said when a new iPhone would arrive, what it would look like or where it would be sold.
