We reported about Apples iAd’s back in July of this year. Previously the iAd service had only been available on the iPhone and iPod Touch, but with the new iOS update iAd’s are now possible on the iPad. The first of these iAds was launched on the platform yesterday and showcased the upcoming Disney blockbuster Tron Legacy. This was just a preview of what the format will look like on the platform and it will be the only iAd planned this year, with the main bulk set to follow in 2011.

Similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch, the first iPad iAd is packed with hi-res visuals, touch navigation and video. The iAd will run in iPad apps such as TV Guide and includes up to 10 minutes of video footage, images from the movie, a theater locater (including showtimes), and a preview of the movie soundtrack with the option to purchase on iTunes in-App. Also, for the first time you will be able to send email right form the Ad.

According to Advertising Age there are more than 125 million Apple mobile devices worldwide, though the iAd audience is only a fraction of that figure: iAds on iPhones are only available in the U.S., U.K. and France, though they’re coming to Germany and Japan in 2011.
